Volume 1, Issue 2 – July 2025 Edition
Focus and Scope
Journal of Science Education publishes original research articles, theoretical studies, and literature reviews that explore issues, innovations, and advancements in the field of science education. The journal aims to promote scholarly dialogue and the exchange of ideas among researchers, educators, policymakers, and practitioners at the national and international levels. It accepts manuscripts related to curriculum, instruction, learning theory, educational policy, and teacher education across all levels of science education.
In addition to full-length research articles, the journal features the following specialized sections:
Learning
This section includes theoretical and empirical studies focused on the processes of science learning. Contributions may explore psychological, cognitive, sociocultural, and affective dimensions of learning in various contexts, including classroom and informal environments. Studies linking learning with teaching strategies, scientific practices, learner characteristics, and sociopolitical or cultural influences are highly encouraged.
Issues and Trends
Papers in this section provide analytical, interpretive, or persuasive perspectives on current educational, philosophical, or policy-related issues in science education. Submissions may take the form of position papers, conceptual critiques, or reflective essays that provoke scholarly discussion and debate on contemporary challenges and opportunities in the field.
Science Learning in Everyday Life
This section invites papers that explore how science is learned outside formal educational settings. Contexts may include homes, communities, museums, media, or digital platforms. Manuscripts should highlight how informal experiences contribute to science understanding, interest, and identity, with special attention to equity and accessibility in science learning opportunities.
Science Teacher Education
Focuses on research concerning the preparation, development, and professional growth of science teachers. Topics may include pedagogical content knowledge, reflective practice, teacher beliefs, mentoring, and teacher education programs. Submissions should address the continuum of teacher development from pre-service to in-service and beyond.
Science Education Policy
Includes studies that examine the goals, design, and impact of policies on science education. Submissions may investigate how science education policy is shaped by various actors, and how it affects classroom practice, teacher development, curriculum standards, and student learning outcomes.
Science Studies and Science Education
Offers a platform for interdisciplinary insights into science and its teaching. Contributions may draw from history, philosophy, sociology, and anthropology of science, as well as cognitive science and artificial intelligence, to inform educational theory, methodology, or practice.
Comments and Criticism
Provides space for critical reflections, responses, or alternative perspectives on previously published articles in the journal. This section welcomes thoughtful and concise discussions aimed at enhancing scholarly exchange and understanding.
Books
Publishes reviews of recent books in the field of science education. Reviews should provide critical assessments of the work's contribution, relevance, and implications for research or practice.
Journal of Science Education encourages submissions that apply rigorous methodologies and contribute to advancing science education theory or practice. Quantitative research using advanced statistical techniques (e.g., MANOVA, structural equation modeling) and well-structured qualitative studies grounded in naturalistic inquiry are preferred. Manuscripts should include a comprehensive literature review, a clearly defined research problem, and a robust discussion of implications and limitations.
